Chace’s Pancake Corral

Corned Beef Hash: Canned, stick to the pancakes.

Rest of the food: Good

Coffee: Meh

Location: Bellevue

Service: Good

Corned beef Price: $4.50

Coffee Price: $2.50

Other notables:

An east side staple, Chace’s Pancake Corral has been around since 1958 and I believe the only thing that has changed since then is the prices. While the Corned Beef Hash is from a can, I would not let this stop you from coming here. It is an old school diner with historic photos on the war and one of the only places in this city that is older than 20 years old. Just stick with the pancakes.

Roslyn Cafe

Corned Beef Pork Belly Hash: Very good, well seasoned, Garlic forward but not overwhelming. Crispy pork and potato chunks with lots of onion and bell peppers.

Rest of the food: Very good

Coffee: Good

Location: Roslyn, Wa

Service: Very friendly

Corned beef Price: $13

Coffee Price: $1.75

Other notables:

Much of this town was used as a set for the 1990’s TV show, Northern Exposure. The mural on the side of the cafe is the one In the opening scene of the show.

The restaurant itself is quaint and unique. I would not expect this quality food in such a small town and is one of the better breakfasts I have had in recent memory. I highly recommend coming here if you are traveling on I90 looking for a good breakfast. It is well worth the detour.

Other notables: Pricey for what it is but average for the location

A small eatery next to a grocery store just outside of the busy downtown Bellevue. Convenient location away from the traffic but close to the shopping at Bellevue Square.

Twede’s Cafe/RR2go (AKA: Double R Diner)

twedes_rr2go-resized-jpg.png

Corned Beef Hash: Canned

Rest of the food: N/A, I just had a side of hash

Coffee: A damn fine cup of coffee

Location: North bend

Service: Great

Corned beef Price: $5.99

Coffee Price: $2.25 I think. I could not read the hand writing.

Other notables: Restaurant from TV’s twin peaks redone to its former T.V. glory.

(Click) Diane, 08:46 AM, April 15, 2017. Entering the town of North Bend. 28 miles east of Seattle and 132 miles south of the Canadian border. 52°F on an overcast day, weather.com said rain. Mileage is 289,375 and the fuel gauge is on full. Looks like I’ll be meeting up for breakfast with a …ah… Dave. Looking forward to a bite to eat and a cup coffee at the Double R Diner. (Click)

(Click) Diane, 09:07 AM. At the Double R Diner now with a damn fine cup of coffee and some sub-par Corned Beef Hash clearly from a can. We will see how the cherry pie is at a later date. The restaurant has changed in the last few years. Once decorated entirely with ‘Twede bird’ from the cartoons of yesteryear, you know the one “I tought I taw a puddy cat”, it seems to have been restored to its former glory and the one I recall from when I first came here in on April 8, 1990. The staff is just as friendly and the clientele seem to all be excited to be there, taking pictures of any and all details in the restaurant. I will return but not for the corned beef. (Click)

Frankie’s Modern Diner, Victoria B.C.

Corned Beef Hash: No corned beef but I did have the Italian sausage hash; ham, bacon, Italian sausage, peppers, mushroom, potato, all cut in 1″ chunks.

Rest of the food: Good, the scrambled eggs with hollandaise was unique and tasty

Coffee: good

Location: Downtown Victoria on Vancouver Island, B.C., Canada

Service: Good enough though not great

Corned beef: $12.75 (Canadian)

Coffee Price: $3 (Canadian)

Other notables: Modern diner is a good name for this place. Not many breakfast restaurants in Victoria and this one is located above a Burger King on a main drag in the city. Nice view of government street. While the restaurant and the food were not traditional, both were nice. I would not hesitate to return if I could not find another restaurant.

North Bend Bar and Grill

Corned Beef Hash: very good, beef thinly sliced, potatoes large chunks, julienned peppers and onion

Rest of the food: good

Coffee: meh

Location: North Bend Washington

Service: meh

Corned beef Price: $12.99

Coffee Price: $1.99

Other Notables: While not remarkable, if I was in the area again, I would not hesitate to return.

Maltby Cafe

Corned Beef Hash: Fine shreds of beef and potatoes served like a pancake. Well seasoned
Rest of the food: Excellent.
Coffee: High meh, nothing special but better than average
Location: Maltby Washington, just east of Woodinville off SR522
Service: Very good and friendly
Corned beef Price: No idea, they didn’t itemize
Coffee Price:  Also no idea, still didn’t itemize
Other notables: House made everything, bread, sausage, cinnamon roll, jam etc. Everyone orders a cinnamon roll (with good reason) to share but I recommend the scone (also to share). Both are as big as your head.

Once you get to the restaurant itself, it can be difficult for first timers to find the enterance unless someone is coming out as you are entering. It is not the front of the building up the stairs but rather on the side of the building in the basement.

If you are going on the weekend, I highly recommend getting there as they open at 7:00 a.m., any latter and you will be waiting an untold amount of time for a table.

In all, it is well worth a nice Sunday drive out to Maltby cafe.
